Talks on marketing of hybrid and electric vehicles as well as designing technology to run cars on substitute fuel such as bio-fuel topped the agenda of industry shareholders and ministers last week at the yearly automobile convention.
At the introductory session of the 57th SIAM Annual Convention 2017, Anant Geete, the Minister of Public Enterprises and Heavy Industries, claimed that the government was thinking of the extension of a proposal to market hybrid and electric cars by more 6 Months. “Most probably, we will expand it for more 6 Months post the end of next month. Previously, the stage one of the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles) India scheme was expanded by 6 Months,” claimed Geete. The stage one of the proposal was rolled out from April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2017.
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Transport Minister, urged the automobile sector to design technology to run cars on substitute fuel such as bio-fuel. “There is financial viability in fresh tech. Let us map for the upcoming 25 Years. I would sturdily urge the segment to spend in public transport and design electric cars and electric bikes. I urge automobile firms to branch out in substitute fuel,” claimed Gadkari. He further added that the government is aiming to bring 2nd-generation ethanol as a substitute fuel.
Low per capita vehicle ownership in the country will be beneficial for the nation for huge implementation of electric cars, claimed Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, to the media in an interview at the same event. “It is a chance for our sector. Once policy is established, cost, research, and fast charging are 3 key elements in growth of an electric vehicle,” claimed Sumit Sawhney, MD of Renault India Operations and CEO of Renault India, to the media in an interview.
“Lot of research is taking place on the battery. Price is elevated but it will lower down to 1/3rd or less in upcoming times. Over time, the price will lower with research. There is fast charging where 80% of battery is charged in 20 Minutes to 30 Minutes,” he further claimed.
