After winning the India–England series of five with a lead of 3-0, team India’s main motive was to either draw this match or to win it. England, in its first innings, gave a magnificent performance setting a target of 477 for India. Well, it was our turn now.
After skipping for 157 overs in the first inning, it was unexpected that Parthiv Patel will be the opening batsmen. Still, he did his best to support and gave a contribution of 71 runs. On the other hand, Lokesh Rahul was intact on the other end playing safely. Unfortunately, he gave his wicket on a silly ball of Rashid and got out at 199. Bad luck!!!
Captain Virat failed to perform in this test. Well, it was Karun Niar’s turn to show his ability. With lack of luck in the first test, Karun was aware that he won’t be getting another chance. He gave his full potential and performed well. He knocked off a phenomenal score of 303 not out. With the help of 32 fours and 4 sixes, Karun achieved his first 300 within 381 balls only. This was a record made by an Indian third time in the history of cricket. Previously, it was Virendra Shewag who scored two 300s in his carrier.
With the support of Karun’s 300, India made a whooping score of 759 and declared the innings, which we guess will result the test to be a draw. Well done Karun for your phenomenal and record-breaking performance.
