The Google’s carrier billing plan is finally here now after been for long in news. Idea Cellular has shake hands with Google for offering its prepaid users with an option to bit apps, make in-app purchases etc. The amount of purchase with be deducted from balance or added to monthly bill thus negating the need of debit/credit cards.
The Idea Cellular subscribers both postpaid and prepaid will be able to purchase apps via direct carrier billing. This is one of the best moves by Google and Idea Cellular. QWTJ Live had a talk with Country Director (India and South Asia) at Rovio, Anurag Sachdeva at recent Reliance Games PGConnects. He emphasized more on the limitations credit cards put on revenue generation in India.
CEO of Reliance Games, Amit Khanduja told Firstpost at the same event, “We (India) are not the extension of what you launched in UK or US. We have more unqiue requirements like content in different languages, different payment methods as the credit card penetration is limited at higher end of spectrum.”
- Lakshminarayana, the Chief Operating Officer (Idea Cellular) said, “Idea has brought a revolution in Internet services and has created a robust network through extensive 3G and 4G rollout. With abilities to provide wireless broadband to over 880 million Indians, Idea is in its way to big success in future. This tie up with Google Play will be creating vast opportunities for the subscribers and also a secure gateway in digital world.”
This option I surely going to make the purchases much easier considering that only 3 percent of Indian have credit card. “India has a huge potential for online commerce and taking Google Play carrier to India is milestone,” said Ray Anderson, Bango CEO. Around 182 million subscribers of Idea would be able to get universal payment method and can easily enjoy the app experience.
