New Delhi: After ‘Ringing Bells’, Docoss Multimedia is the new name claiming to sell a smartphone at just Rs. 888. Some of the local handset makers have already raised the alarms bells against Docoss Multimedia, a Jaipur-based company. These local handset makers are claiming that Docoss Multimedia’s proposition is false and they couldn’t provide a smartphone at an unbelievable price of Rs. 888.
Shashin Devsare, the Executive Director, Karbonn Mobiles said, ‘It’s another Freedon 251’. His statement was based on previous claims of Ringing Bells, another smartphone company that challenged to provide smartphones at an unbelievable price of Rs. 251. The strategy of Docoss X1 and Ringing Bells appears to be very similar and it might be a publicity stunt as a smartphone at Rs. 888 appears far beyond impossible.
Devsare added, ‘‘the price of Docoss X1 smartphone is not possible. Anyone, who is going through standard evaluation process of the components and other necessary quality validations wouldn’t be able to price smartphone at so low.’’
Docoss X1 is a dual SIM phone having 4-innches screen, 0.3MP front camera, 2.0MP rear camera, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage (expandable to 32GB) and is powered with a 1300mAh battery. It will be running on Android KitKat 4.4 and will be powered with Cortex-A7 dual-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz.
The attempts made to contact Docoss Multimedia went in vain. All the contact numbers, even the customer support numbers mentioned on their official website were not reachable.
Ringing Bells’ Freedom 251 had very similar specifications at compared to Docoss X1 smartphone. Though, Freedom 251 war ahead of Docoss X1 in some of the features like it had a larger battery of 1450mAh, better display, VGA front camera, and 3.2MP rear camera.
Around 30000 orders for Freedom 251 were placed and around 25 lakh pre-bookings were done within few days of its launch on February 17. They collected a huge sum of 84 lakh INR. The deliveries were to be started from April and they haven’t started till yet. The money collected was returned eventually, but the company is now facing allegations of being fraud and government investigation is continuing on them after this scam scheme. The government said that the phone specifications mentioned by Ringing Bells could be priced as low as Rs. 2300.
The industry watchers have already claimed that Docoss X1 is going to harm the customers. Devsare further added that the customers would be better informed this time after Freedom 251 incident. He further said, ‘Once bitten twice shy.’
