Sharon Jones, of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, treated unsuspecting customers at the famed soul food restaurant ‘Sylvia’s’ in Harlem to an impromptu performance. Each Sunday Sylvia’s restaurant hosts ‘Sylvia’s Gospel Brunch’, an event that features soul food and a singer who moves about the restaurant entertaining guests.
As part of a radio contest, two fans and their guests were invited to eat brunch with Jones at Sylvia’s restaurant; in addition to the food, the contest winners and plenty of surprised diners were treated to Jones’ singing a version of the Mahalia Jackson song ‘I Sing Because I’m Happy’.
Jones has sold out the famed Apollo venue on two separate occasions.
